Evanston Obituary: Barbara C. Doolittle, 81
"Peaches" spent most of her adult life in Evanston and was a member of the Evanston Woman's Club.

Barbara C. Doolittle age 81 of Evanston. Beloved wife of Sidney N. Doolittle; loving mother of Scott (Leslie) Doolittle, Craig (Julie) Doolittle and Sally Sizemore; proud grandmother of Grant (Lucy) Doolittle, August Hoppmann, Evelyn Doolittle, Duane Sizemore, Jr. and Nicolas Sizemore; Half-sister of George “Butch” Taylor. Preceded in death by her parents Herbert Colsten, Geneva Kays Taylor and stepfather Percy Taylor, her dear sisters Mary Scribner, Helen “Pee Wee” Beers, Dorothy “Judy” Morris, Jean Johnson and her brother Francis “Mickey” Colsten, as well as her sister/cousin Harriet Butler.
Barbara or “Peaches” as she was known to her friends and family in Upstate New York, spent most of her adult life in Evanston. She married the love of her life, Sidney Doolittle, 61 years ago in Binghamton, NY. She was a homemaker while raising her 3 children and an avid volunteer. She briefly co-owned Deacon’s Five-and-Ten in Evanston. She was a Meals at Home volunteer for 35 plus years, a Member of the Evanston Woman’s Club, the North End Mother’s Club, PEO, and the Highland Garden Club for over 20 year as well as being a deacon and wedding liaison at Northminster Presbyterian Church. She was a talented seamstress and cook, and her baked goods were always sought after. She loved traveling to interesting destinations with her husband and friends. Her green thumb produced the most beautiful African Violets in a stunning array of colors. Alzheimer’s may have taken her memories and eventually her life, but those who love her will never forget the sweet, caring, creative woman she was.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 9th, 2:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2515 Central Park Ave. Evanston, IL 60201.
