Barbara Ford (nee) Moore, died peacefully at home on October 25, 2021, from complications of lung cancer. She was 83 years old. She is survived by her four children, Sarah C. Ford, (Charles Mitchell, Baltimore, MD) Scott W. Ford, (Francie Copeland, Skokie, IL) Amy B. Ford, (San Jose, CA,) Michael B. Ford (Renee, Wilmette, IL), cousins Michael Choice, (Nancy) and Douglas Choice. Barbara was a proud grandparent to Benjamin Ford and Urbain Giossi and great-grandmother to Kimora and Jordin Giossi. She is preceded in death by her mother Celeste Moore, much beloved aunts Josephine Choice, Minette DeVoto and Irene DeVoto and her grandson, Faustin Keazomo.

Barbara was a native of Oak Park, IL. She attended Oak Park and River Forrest High School and later attended Beloit College, where she studied American history. After college she married Michael W. Ford. They soon started a family and moved to Barrington, IL. In 1970, they divorced, and Barbara moved to Evanston, IL, where she resided for 51 years.

Barbara worked in the national headquarters office of Sigma Alpha Epsilon in Evanston, IL and she continued her career at Marshall Field’s and Macy’s, until her retirement.

Barbara had many passions in life. She was a voracious reader, a lover of nature, in particular bird sanctuaries, which she visited often on her trip to the east and west coasts when visiting her daughters. Barbara was a fierce advocate for woman’s rights and equal opportunity for all. She loved to travel and enjoyed exploring different cultures, especially through their food and rich histories.

We will always cherish her open mind and heart to family and strangers alike. Her eagerness and unquenchable thirst for knowledge knew no bounds. Her curiosity for the world was never ending. She was happiest when surrounded by loved ones during the holidays.

Services will be private.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
