Evanston Obituary: Bob McCollum, 89

Bob served in the Navy and was a patent attorney for Ford and General Motors.

Bob McCollum passed away on March 27, 2015, at Presbyterian Homes in Evanston, IL. He was 89. Bob was born in Buffalo, New York on Oct. 29, 1925. Growing up in Wheeling, West Virginia, he attended The Linsly School. Bob served our country in the US Navy during the 1940s.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Michigan, where he earned his undergraduate degree in aeronautical engineering, plus a masters degree in mechanical engineering. While at Michigan, Bob married Caryl Lee Clarke. After graduating from Michigan, Bob and Caryl moved to Washington D.C., where he earned his law degree from Georgetown.

Bob worked as a patent attorney at General Motors and Ford Motor Company. Bob and Caryl raised 3 daughters: Robin; Holly and Laurie, in Birmingham, Michigan.

Following Caryl’s death in 1987, Bob moved to Ann Arbor. After retiring from Ford in the early 90s, Bob indulged his love of University of Michigan football, grandkids, and travel. He was also an avid golfer, and was excited about hitting two separate holes in one during his golfing career.

Bob is survived by daughters Laurie McCollum (husband, Carl Warschausky); Holly Paige (husband, Wayne); and Robin McCollum. He is survived by grandchildren Aaron, Kara, Max, and Ryan Warschausky; former wives Madonna McCollum and Norma Barbour; nieces Diana Linebury, Becky Betar and Vicky Patterson; and loving extended family.

Burial will be held Saturday, April 4th at 10 A.M. at Greenwood Cemetery, 738 Oak Blvd, in Birmingham.
