Evanston Obituary: Donald Renwick Hodgman, 93
Don served in World War II and earned degree from Harvard.

Donald Renwick Hodgman, 93, of Evanston died Sunday morning (Feb. 15, 2015), at home.
Don was born August 16, 1921 in Buffalo, NY, as the son of Stillman Augustus Hodgman and Miriam Renwick Flint. He married Naomi Crystal Meyer on May 19, 1945. She survives.
Survivors also include three children and their families: David Renwick and Liane Hodgman of Evanston; Deborah Jane and Alan Long of Homewood, IL; and Robert Meyer and Jan Hodgman of Anacortes, WA. He was preceded in death by a son, John Norton Hodgman.
He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Joshua Carty and Janet Carty of Griffith, IN and their daughter Rhiannon; Daniel Renwick and his fiancée Chandra Schmechel of Chicago; Thomas and Amy Hodgman of Evanston and their two children, Samuel and Aquinnah; Sean Carty of San Francisco; Jessica and Brian Hesselberg of Evanston and their two children, Owen and Elise.
Don served in the Army during World War II. After the war, Don received a PhD in economics from Harvard University, was a charter member of the Russian Research Center, and taught at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where he was a faculty member for 29 years.
Don enjoyed gardening, tennis, swimming, reading, travel, birding, languages (he spoke Russian, French, and Italian), studying the piano, listening to music, family genealogy, and using his Macbook and iPad.
