Evanston Obituary: John "Joe" O'Connor

John “Joe” O’Connor of Evanston, IL entered into eternal life surrounded by family and friends on January 17, 2015 due to complications from cancer and Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Chicago, Joe was a long time member of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Evanston. He was a retired Executive Director of the Chicago Christian Industrial League, a non-profit organization aiding the homeless of Chicago. A former priest with the Order of the Holy Cross, Joe dedicated himself to helping others.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary O’Connor (nee Karris); his parents, John and Margaret (nee Neylon) O’Connor; four siblings, James O’Connor and William O’Connor (Rosemary), Mary Bridget (late Jack) Ward and Margaret Ann O’Connor.

Survived by his sons, James B. O’Connor of California and Timothy J. O’Connor of Evanston; his siblings, Martin (Mary Helen) of Winnetka, Eileen (late Gerry) Murray of Corvallis, OR, Michael (Eileen) of Joliet, Il, Kevin (Mary) of Chicago, IL, Robert (Mary) of Crete, IL, Monica (Thomas) Agler of Crown Point, IN, Loretta (Richard) Cushman of Peoria, IL, and Cecilia O’Connor of Chicago, IL; cherished and loving friend Carolyn McConnell; friends, Kathleen (nee Evans) O’Connor, Eileen (nee Phelan) O’Connor, Irene (nee Schoen) O’Connor and Romeo Sintos; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Visitation Tuesday January 20, 2015, 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie, IL 60077.

Funeral Wednesday, January 21, 2015 9:15 from Donnellan Family Funeral 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie, IL 60077 to Saint Joan of Arc Church , 9248 N. Lawndale Ave. Evanston, IL 60203 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.

Interment All Saints Cemetery, 700 N. River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
