Evanston Opens Survey To Assess Home Damage After Recent Storms

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston is asking residents to report home storm damage after severe weather, including damaging winds and tornadoes, moved through the area specifically on July 27.

Residents are encouraged to complete a residential damage assessment survey so emergency management agencies can compile data on the severity and extent of the damage. The review is focused on power outages, downed power lines, tree removal emergencies, debris, localized roadway flooding, and structural emergencies resulting from the storm system.

Information from residents will help determine eligibility for additional funding assistance.

The city said reporting damage through emergency management is voluntary. It also said the survey is not a substitute for reporting damage to an insurance agency, and completing it does not guarantee disaster relief assistance.

The survey will close on Monday. The City’s Office of Emergency Management will continue working with local, county, and state emergency management agencies to analyze storm damage and seek any available assistance for affected residents, according to the notice.

Evanston's Emergency Management Agency is working with the State's Emergency Management Agency – Office of Homeland Security, the Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security, and the City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications to assess the impact.
