Evanston Police Denied Federal Grant for Body Cameras
More than $600,000 would have funded program in Evanston.

It could be awhile before police in Evanston have body-worn cameras.
An application the city put in for a federal grant for more than $600,000 to purchase the equipment was denied, according to the Daily Northwestern.
Police have said that while the decision is a disappointment, waiting until technology is cheaper and more efficient could be worth it.

“Body cameras are coming — they are definitely going to be part of policing in the future here,” Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. “But there are some positives as far as taking our time before we jump right into something.”
