Evanston Team Joins O'Hare Plane Pull To Raise Money For Special Olympics Illinois

EVANSTON, IL — Team Evanston is preparing for a high-profile fundraiser at O'Hare International Airport, where participants will try to pull a United Airlines 737 across the tarmac to support Special Olympics Illinois.

According to Team Evanston, the event is scheduled to take place on Sept. 26, and raises both money and awareness for Special Olympics Illinois athletes. The team is asking the community to help it reach a $1,000 fundraising goal before the event.

“On September 26th, Team Evanston is heading to O'Hare International Airport to pull a massive aircraft across the tarmac to raise vital funds and awareness for the incredible athletes of the Special Olympics Illinois," the Evanston Police Department said.

The Plane Pull is described as a tug-of-war style competition involving teams of up to 20 people. Each team must raise a minimum of $1,000 for the chance to pull the aircraft 12 feet as fast as possible.

The aircraft used in the event is a United Airlines 737 that weighs more than 95,000 pounds.
