Evanston Top Suburb in Issuing Gay Marriage Licenses

County Clerk shows 142 licenses issued in first year of legality in Illinois.

Evanston issued the most same-sex marriage licenses of all Cook County Chicago suburbs in 2014, the first full year of legality in Illinois, the Daily Northwestern reports.

A county clerk report issued February 18 showed 142 marriage licenses to same-sex couples were issued by Evanston last year.

Mark Muenzer, the city’s director of community development and LGBT liaison, credited that to the city’s diversity and progressive culture.
