EVANSTON, IL — Evanston Township High School board members promoted two administrators from within to fill vacancies created by the forthcoming departure of Superintendent Eric Witherspoon and the promotion of Principal Marcus Campbell to succeed him.

Taya Kinzie, currently the associate principal for student services, will succeed Campbell as principal and assistant superintendent of the one-school district, district officials announced following Monday's board meeting.

Kinzie is licensed clinical social worker who has experience working with families in Chicago, Waukegan and California and is English-Spanish bilingual.

She began working in the district in 2004 as a social worker the special education department, later becoming a dean of students before she was appointed to her current position in 2015, according to district officials.

"Kinzie has led the student services department and ETHS school and larger communities through a myriad of challenges and changes throughout the years," Campbell said in a statement.

Scott Bramley, who was appointed associate principal for instruction and literacy in 2014 after spending two years as the chair of the ETHS English Department, was named the district's new assistant superintendent for human resources.

In October 2021, Bramley was appointed interim chief human resources officer after the district's top two HR staffers were placed on an unexplained, monthslong paid administrative leave before being granted separation agreements, costing the district more than $400,000.

Campbell described him as a "systems thinker and problem solver who leads with humility."

At Monday's meeting, the board voted to reappoint Pat Savage-Williams as board president, Monique Parsons as board vice president, Assistant Superintendent Pete Bavis as board secretary and Chief Financial Officer Mary Rodino as treasurer.

The board also named a new student board member to succeed outgoing ETHS student representative Barbara Tomardze. Nicole Yao was elected with 43 percent of the vote. Sophie Brown, who received 31 percent of the more than 950 votes cast in last month's election, will serve as Yao's alternate.

Also at Monday's meeting, the board also approved a contract with Campbell, who was formally announced as Witherspoon's successor on April 21. He will take over as superintendent on July 1 after spending more than two decades working at ETHS.

ETHS spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for salary information about the new appointees and district officials did not publicly post a copy of the incoming superintendent's contract before or after the meeting. Patch has filed a public records request for a copy and will provide an update when received.
