The Evanston City Council made slight changes to its affordable housing ordinance for the first time in eight years, according to the Evanston Review.
One change is that in transit areas, 50 of new units will have to be affordable for households at 80 percent of the average median income. The fee for new developers who don’t adhere to the changes will be raised from $40,000 to $100,000 in those areas.
Aldermen disagreed with how effective this will be in making units more affordable overall, but all voted in favor.
