Evanstonians: TripAdvisor 'Way Off' on List of Best Restaurants

A recent Evanston Patch article rounding up the top five restaurants in the city based on reviews from the popular travel website TripAdvisor.com drew criticism from readers, many of whom made one glaring observation.

Not enough local.

Sarpino’s, Soulwich, Lou Malnati’s, Blind Faith Cafe and The Stained Glass received the highest rankings, in that order, from visitors on TripAdvisor. Overall, locals were not pleased.

“This list is WAY off,” said Jennifer Diaz Ilko.

“How can you choose a chain restaurant to be on the list?” asked Rachel Scheid. “ Let’s talk about all our unique dining experiences that have popped up the last two years in Evanston!!”

“Sarpino’s? Really? No mention of the Domino’s or Pizza Hut? Also Burger King could easily out rank Sarpino’s,” added Michael Petroshus.

Cleopatra de la Mar had some better suggestions.

“No Hecky’s? Chicken shack? Just Turkey? Buffalo Joe’s? Le Peep? Gigio’s? Klaire’s Korner?”

Scott Gingold said the list says “more about the voters than the restaurants.”

“Any top restaurants list without Ten Mile House, Found, or Farmhouse is silly,” he said.
