Families invited to Water Safety Awareness Day at Goldfish Swim School Evanston
Event will offer tips on keeping kids safer in the water this summer

All are welcome at Goldfish Swim School Evanston’s Annual Water Safety Awareness Day on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.! We invite you to join us for information on how to get your summer off to a safer start!
The annual event is held at Goldfish locations across the country in conjunction with National Water Safety Month. During the month of May, communities work together to call attention to the steps we can all take to keep all swimmers (and especially children) safer in and around the water.
During the event, Goldfish Swim School (2008 W. Dempster Street, Evanston) will offer information on precautions children and families can take while they are in or near the water this summer. Water Safety Awareness Day, which is free and open to the public, will also feature activities for the whole family including open swim with certified lifeguards on duty, along with other safety-related family fun activities and local sponsors.

“Goldfish’s ultimate goal is to ensure that children are comfortable and confident in the water,” said Sally Anderson, the swim school’s Owner/General Manager. “At Goldfish, water safety is a year-round priority. Water Safety Awareness Day is a great opportunity for us to further educate children and families about potentially life saving procedures.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control, drowning is the leading cause of accidental-injury death among children ages 1 to 4.

Goldfish works to address that statistic through its Bubbles’ Water Safety Program, which features W.A.T.E.R. safety rules for children:
● Wear your life jacket!
● Act. Throw! Don’t go.
● Take swimming lessons.
● Educate, learn swim safety skills.
● Respect, play it cool and follow the rules.
“We want kids — and their parents — to always feel comfortable in the water. By repeating water safety skills every week and drawing extra attention to water safety during this crucial time of year, we’re making sure kids know instinctively what to do in potential scenarios,” Anderson said.
