Fatal Fight: ETHS Grad Dead In Evanston Shooting
A late-night altercation Thursday led to Evanson's first homicide of 2018, police say.

EVANSTON, IL — A Rogers Park man was fatally shot during a fight near Evanston Township High School late Thursday night, police said. Around 11:38 p.m., police got a call of shots fired in 1800 block of Hovland Court. When they arrived, they found a man had been shot in the chest.
Yakez Semark, 20, of the 1700 block of West Estes Avenue was taken to Evanston Hospital and pronounced dead, police said. He had apparently been in a fight with another man who was known to him.
The shooter fled on foot westbound into an alley after firing two shots, according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew. No gun was found at the scene. The shooting, he said, did not appear to be random.

The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF) is investigating the shooting, along with Evanston detectives, police said in a news release. Streets in the 1800 block of Hovland Court and the 1800 block of Grey Avenue were closed due to the investigation Friday. Both blocks are immediately north of ETHS.

The office of the Cook County Medical Examiner said Semark was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m.
Semark was a 2015 graduate of Evanston Township High School graduate, where his mother is the school's director of communications and engagement.
