Former Northwestern Football Player Faces Weapons Charges

19-year-old running back allegedly had rifle and "metal knuckles" in car parked outside stadium.

A former Northwestern University football player faces charges he had an unloaded rifle and “metal knuckles” in a car parked outside Ryan Field and ammo in his dorm room.

Xavier Menifield, 19, a running back from Valencia, Calif. was charged last month with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon for what was found in the vehicle - which included a pair of metal knuckles - and possession of firearm ammunition without a firearm owner’s ID card when the ammo was found in the dorm room, according to the Evanston Review.

Northwestern confirmed Menifield is no longer a member of the football team nor a student at the school. He appeared in one game last year after red-shirting the 2013 season.
