Good Night, Blight! Vacant Evanston Homes to be Demolished

Demolition of 13 structures will make way for more affordable housing in Evanston.

EVANSTON, IL - A baker’s dozen of Evanston’s eyesores won’t be taking up space in the city for much longer.

The City Council is expected to approve a demolition plan Monday night that includes 13 homes that have been vacant for at least a decade, according to Evanston Now.

The city's demolition list include 705 and 2027 Brown Ave., 1729, 1739, 1828 and 2020 Dodge Ave., 1319 and 1615 McDaniel Ave., 1333 Dewey Ave., 1006 Florence Ave., 2017 Foster St., 2020 Green Bay Road and 2224 Washington St. Federal funds obtained through the Illinois Housing Development Authority will be used to pay for the project.

Once the homes are demolished, the plan is to provide new, affordable housing units in its place.

Demolition is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
