Handguns Seized in EPD's Violence Reduction Campaign
An increased focus on recovering handguns from the street has turned in more than 40 weapons since September.

EVANSTON, IL - Evanston police have recovered 41 handguns from the streets since it began a “violence reduction campaign” in September.
Two members of the Evanston Police Department’s neighborhood enforcement team and tactical unit were assigned to work exclusively on recovering firearms as part of the campaign, which also included the use of a “HEAT” map which summarizes and maps out incidents of shots fired calls.
“The officers working the initiative relied on their knowledge of individuals involved in ongoing conflicts in our community as well as confidential informants, tips, the monitoring social media and investigative stops in order to recover the firearms,” police wrote in a statement last week.
