Father and Son Beaten Up as Burglar Looked for Guns (UPDATE)
The suspect in a Thursday afternoon home invasion on Dewey Ave. fled after searching the house for guns, police said.

EVANSTON, IL - A father and son in Evanston were hospitalized with minor injuries early Thursday afternoon after a man broke into their home and battered them in an attempted burglary.
According to police, the suspect entered through the front door of the home in the 1300 block of Dewey Ave. around noon and battered the pair before fleeing on foot. The offender is described as a 30-year-old black man, 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has a goatee and was wearing all black except for red gym shoes during the time of the break-in.
Before he left, the suspect went from room to room in the home looking for guns, police said. Officers responded immediately to the area to search for the man, but could not locate him.

The older victim, who is 76, was treated for a neck injury at Evanston Hospital and his son, 39, for facial injuries.
Police said the pair may have been targeted.
