Home Repair Fraud Charges; Burger King, Library Arrests: Blotter
Feces smeared on two ATMs and an armed robbery at knifepoint near another on the Evanston police blotter from Dec. 29 to Jan. 7.

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
ARMED ROBBERY
A man with a knife robbed a man around 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 29 at outside the Howard Street and Asbury Avenue, demanding their wallet and making off with an envelope containing $705 in cash he had just withdrawn earlier from an ATM in the 1200 block of Howard Street. The gunman, described as between 25 and 37 years old, about 5-foot, 10-inches tall, 200 pounds and black wearing a yellow knit cap, gold jacket, gold pants, fled south down Western Avenue into Chicago. The 44-year-old victim said he first reported the incident to the Chicago Police Department at the 24th District station before he was directed to file a police report in Evanston instead.
CAR BURGLARIES

- Two cars had their side windows smashed in the area of Davis Street and Dodge Avenue during the early morning hours of Dec. 29. Documents, a camera, photo equipment and other property were reported stolen.
- Two unlocked Hondas were burglarized while parked outside an apartment in the 1500 block of Howard Street. A purse, wallet and cash were reported stolen.
- A garage door opener was stolen from inside a Subaru left unlocked in the 1900 block of Orrington Avenue around 10:11 p.m. on Jan. 6.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a 2019 Jeep from a business in the 1900 block of Green Bay Road between 3 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 1 p.m. on Jan. 3. The keys were not accounted for.
HOME/GARAGE BURGLARIES

- Someone got into an apartment in the 800 block of Simpson Street through an unlocked window between Dec. 19 and Dec. 28, stealing a cell phone, gaming system, office equipment and a bag.
- An open window allowed a burglar into a single-family home in the 900 block of Gaffield Place between Dec. 15 and Dec. 30. A gaming system was reported stolen.
- Someone pried open a door to an apartment in the 800 block of Mulford Street between 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, stealing jewelry, cell phones, a laptop, instruments and other property.
- Someone forced open the door to a residential garage in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue and stole a snowblower and tools from inside between Dec. 25 and Jan. 3.
- A single-family home in the 900 block of Hamlin Street was burglarized between Dec. 29 and Jan. 4 after a basement window was left open. Cash, documents, a gaming system and stereo equipment was reported stolen.
- Someone got into an apartment in the 1000 block of Noyes Street through an unlocked window between Dec. 21 and Jan. 5, stealing a gaming system or accessories.
- The front door of an apartment in the 200 block of Custer Avenue was pried open between 2:40 and 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 and cash, jewelry and a tablet were reported stolen.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
A man was threatened with a switch blade and a .40 caliber handgun after being invited to play cards in an apartment in the 1900 block of Foster Street around noon on Jan. 4. The known gunman, who was not a resident of the apartment, warned the man that he had been told "not to come over here."
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO ATM
Someone smeared feces on two ATMs at a bank in the 800 block of Church Street between 1 p.m. on Jan. 5 and 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 6.

ARRESTS
Maurice E. Thomas, 52, of the 2100 block of Dewey Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 1 p.m. on Dec. 29 and charged with battery at the Evanston Public Library in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.
Artelle J. Bailey, 30, of the 5600 block of South Justine Street, Chicago, was arrested around 4:19 p.m. on Dec. 29 and charged with disorderly conduct at the Burger King in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.
Yoko M. Rodgers, 38, without a listed address, was arrested around 5:47 p.m. on Dec. 29 and charged with trespassing at the Burger King in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.
Terrance J. Hogan, 33, of the 9200 block of South Kingston Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:05 a.m. on Dec. 30 in the 800 block of Sheridan Road and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Terrence D. Wade, 29, of the 1700 block of Grey Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 11:49 a.m. on Dec. 30 at his home and charged with domestic battery.
Anne F. Nash, 48, of the 3300 block of Hartzell Street, Evanston, was arrested around 9:49 p.m. on Dec. 30 at her home and charged with trespassing.
William G. Reed, 57, of the 100 block of East Chestnut Street, Chicago, was arrested around 2:07 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the Burger King in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue and charged with assault.
Larry T. Coulter, 57, of the 1800 block of Lyons Street, Evanston, was arrested around 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 2 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with retail theft.
Carol L. Zoltek, 72, with no listed address, was arrested around 3:11 p.m. on Jan. 3 and charged with trespassing at the Social Security Administration office in the 2100 block of Green Bay Road.
Robert Aguilar, 40, of the 4500 block of North Albany Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 5:38 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Walgreens in the 600 block of Chicago Avenue.
Kerry J. Farina, 38, of the 2000 block of Foster Street, Evanston, was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. on Jan. 4 and charged with three counts of home repair fraud connected to incidents in 2018.

Mikaylo T. Kelly, 24, of the 1800 block of Colfax Street, Evanston, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 in the 900 block of Noyes Street and charged with criminal damage to property – defacement.
Andre Woods, 49, of the 200 block of Custer Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at his home around 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 5 and charged with aggravated battery – strangulation following an incident that he told police began with an argument over R. Kelly.
Bernadine L. Smith, 32, of the 9900 block of Holly Lane, Des Plaines, was arrested around 11:50 p.m. on Jan. 5 in the 1800 block of Lake Street and charged with criminal damage to property – knowingly damaging property.
Randi R. Kapton, 22, of the 3500 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 6 and charged with theft in the 2200 block of Howard Street.
