Hospira Foundation awards $1,250,000 grant to Children's Oncology Services, Inc.

Provides program scholarships for Chicago and suburban children to attend One Step Summer Camp and Winter Camp programs.

Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. has received a $1,250,000 grant from the Hospira Foundation. The donation, one of the largest in the organization’s history, will provide program scholarships for Chicago and suburban children to attend One Step Summer Camp and Winter Camp programs over the next ten years.

“We have been incredibly focused on bringing more children to all of our programs, especially our Summer and Winter Camp programs,” says Jeff Infusino, President of Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. “We are deeply grateful to the Hospira Foundation for their generosity as this donation will allow us to continue providing exceptional experiences to more local children who have been diagnosed with cancer for many years to come.”

Beginning with a single Summer Camp program thirty seven years ago, Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. has become a leader in providing empowering, educational and fun experiences for children (5-19) who have been diagnosed with cancer. They are the only local organization to offer 11 different programs throughout the year serving children and families who live in Illinois, Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest.

“Our entire community of campers, families, volunteers, board, staff and donors have all worked together to make our organization what it is today. We all share in the success of this award,” says Janel Huston, Chairwoman of the Board. “We believe that this is just the start of even greater things for our organization, the children that we support and our entire community. We remain true to our mission of empowering kids who have cancer, encouraging them to take on the world.”

As the organization looks to increase its overall number of campers served by 10% per year over the next decade, this donation will help sponsor more than half of local Chicago area children for their Summer Camp and Winter Camp programs by 2025.
