Hot Dog Joint on Howard Street Closes Months After Opening
Some thought the food was "terrible" at the "terribly undercapitalized" Maxwell Style Grill, alderman writes.

EVANSTON, IL - The “ketchup and mustard” painted building on Howard Street will have to find a use - possibly one that doesn’t include hot dogs, polishes or cheeseburgers at all.
The Maxwell Style Grill on the west side of the Howard Street-Ridge Avenue corridor in Evanston closed recently, according to an Evanston Now report. The business had just opened in March and was considered to be a potential catalyst for business growth in the city’s eighth ward.
The comfort food spot replaced a Dairy Queen and years of inactivity at the location, but the closure wasn’t the result of a lack of a need for fast food on the city’s southern edge.

According to Evanston Now, 8th Ward Ald. Ann Rainey posted on her message board that the business was “terribly undercapitalized.”
"There are more than enough customers to handle a good fast food restaurant on Howard Street. The day it closed there were 12 of us in the parking lot waiting for them to open… Some people thought the food was OK others thought it was terrible."
