How To Register To Vote In Evanston

Here's what you need to know about voter registration in Evanston ahead of the March 17 election.

EVANSTON, IL — While many ballots for the March 17 Primary Election have already been mailed out to voters in Illinois, swaths of residents still haven’t registered.

In Illinois, the last day to register to vote online is Feb. 17 — 28 days before Election Day. You can register to vote here. For those who need to check their registration and in which county, click here. If you are 17 years old and will turn 18 by the time of the election, you can register to vote.

Illinois also offers grace period registration, which allows voters to register anytime in the days leading up to election day. During the grace period, people can register to vote

  • at the office of the election authority;
  • at a permanent polling place established by the election authority;
  • at any other early voting site beginning 15 days prior to the election;
  • at some polling places on Election Day;
  • at a location specifically designated for this purpose by the election authority.

For grace period registration and voting, voters but be U.S.citizens, at least 18 years of age and a resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day. Voting centers will also require two forms of identification:

  • Driver’s license
  • State ID
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Paycheck or government check
  • Government document that shows name and address
  • ID card from college with piece of mail

Same-day voter registration, also known as conditional registration, is also available for those who miss the deadline to register to vote or update their information before the March 17 election.

In Evanston, you can complete the same-day voter registration process at your home precinct or at any of the Election Day Vote Centers. On March. 17, residents will be able to access same-day voter registration and cast their ballots between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
