Howard Street Improvement Project Starts Monday

Work will begin Monday in the area of Target, Jewel-Osco and the North Shore Channel.

The street that borders Chicago with Evanston and Skokie will get a facelift this year, but four months of traffic headaches could be on the horizon first.

A tri- municipality collaboration between Chicago, Evanston and Skokie will mean work on Howard Street from Hartrey Avenue/Sacramento Avenue to the bridge over the North Shore Channel in Skokie beginning on Monday, June 13 and lasting through October.

According to a memo from the city of Evanston, the project will include the installation of new traffic signals at Target Drive/Sacramento Avenue, the modernization of existing traffic signals at Jewel-Osco Drive/Kedzie Avenue, Jewel-Osco and Target access drive and intersection improvements, replacement of curb and gutter as needed, ADA ramps, sidewalk widening, roadway resurfacing, storm sewer and drainage improvements, pavement markings.
