(CHICAGO, Ill.) January 15, 2016 – The Chicago chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) has announced that Claire Shipman, renowned journalist and The New York Times best selling author of “The Confidence Code,” will be the keynote speaker at NAWBO Chicago’s 2016 Annual Celebration of Achievement Luncheon. The event is set to take place on Monday, May 2, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park at 200 North Columbus Dr. in Chicago. The Achievement Luncheon is sponsored in part by Morgan Stanley.

“Confidence is what separates us from failure or success in a lot of instances,” said NAWBO Chicago President Michele Katz who founded Advitam IP, a leading intellectual property law firm in the city. “Let’s be honest, as a group, women oftentimes suffer from lack of confidence. In too many situations, we hesitate and let someone else lead,” Katz said.
A strong interviewer of global and iconic newsmakers, Claire Shipman is a senior contributor for ABC News’ Good Morning America. According to Katz, Shipman reflects NAWBO’s mission by showing “what life on confidence looks like.” Programs like the organization’s Young Entrepreneur’s Academy (YEA!) has boosted the confidence of more than 30 teenage girls from 12 Chicago schools. NAWBO Chicago launched YEA! in 2014 as a year-long class and mentorship program conducted in partnership with DePaul University.

Ginna Ryan, principal of marketing firm Mauge, Inc., serves as event chairperson and says Shipman’s assessment of confidence resonated with her. “Many women have a complicated relationship with confidence, both personally and professionally,” said Ryan. “It can be elusive at any stage – no matter who you are or what you’ve accomplished. The luncheon offers a rare opportunity to hear about the importance of confidence and how to achieve it.”
NAWBO Chicago is the city’s largest organization of Chicago-area women leading highly competitive, sustainable, profitable businesses. Members are thought leaders who practice servant leadership and long-term relationship building that empower members to grow their businesses confidently. NAWBO Chicago is headquartered at 500 Davis Street, Suite 812 in Evanston; call (312) 224-2605.
