Kabul House to Leave Skokie for Evanston

Afghan favorite needs bigger space, plans move to Dempster Street.

One of Skokie’s most popular restaurants could soon be one of Evanston’s most popular restaurants.

Kabul House, a popular place for Afghan food, will leave its digs at 4949 Oakton St. at the end of the summer for a space three times the size at 2424 Dempster St. in Evanston, according to the Skokie Review.

Owner Aklmal Qazi told the Review his first choice was to remain in Skokie, but he was unable to find a place that would work with the diner’s growing needs.

"We did not want to leave downtown Skokie," he said. “We have outgrown our own facility."
In Evanston, the new Kabul House will seat 140 (the current place holds 60) and take up shop in the same building that most recently was home to Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles.

Kabul House has its roots in Evanston, but gained the bulk of its popularity at the Oakton Street site for nearly the past six years.
