Kenilworth Man, CEO of Medical Marijuana Company Suing State, Dies Unexpectedly

Autopsy was inconclusive for 51-year-old Andrew James, who was suing Illinois on behalf of PMRx.

A Kenilworth man who was the CEO of a medical marijuana company suing the state of Illinois died unexpectedly last week.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Andrew James, 51, was found unresponsive at home on Thursday and an autopsy performed the next day was inconclusive. More tests are still to come.

James was the CEO of PMRx, a company that applied for a medical marijuana-farming permit in the Kankakee area, but lost out on the bid. Following the decision, the company sued the state alleging it failed to follow its own licensing guidelines.

The ongoing dispute has prevented Cresco Labs, the company awarded the Kankakee bid, from moving forward with its operation.

James believed the process in which the bid was awarded was “profoundly flawed,” a longtime friend told the Sun-Times.

According to his obituary from Donnellan Family Funeral Services. James was a member of the Racquet Club of Chicago and Shore Acres in Lake Bluff.

A visitation will take place at Donnellan Family Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday.
