honoring ETHS students for their scholarship and athleticism

Three scholar athletes from Evanston Township High School recently received the Ted Van Zelst Award from the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. The three included Joshua Klier, Emma Dzwierzynski and Christian Nielsen.
Josh is a second year member of the Boys Soccer team and plans to major in college in an environmentally-focused program. Emma runs both Cross Country and competes on the Girls Soccer team, she is looking at a pre-med program. Christian competes in both football and track. All three students are active in programs at the high school designed to make the transition from middle school to the high school less stressful and more rewarding. In addition to their coaches and teachers, the students also gave credit to their parents for their support and inspiration.
The Ted Van Zelst Award was created by the club to honor Ted Van Zelst, a humanitarian, businessman, art collector and scientist. The award is sustained by a special fund which was endowed by the Van Zelst family after Mr. Van Zelst’s death.
