Kiwanis Club Honors ETHS Scholar Athletes
during the school year the Kiwanis club of Evanston honors outstanding scholar athletes from ETHS.

On September 30, three outstanding ETHS scholar-athletes were honored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. The Ted Van Zelst Award is named for the Kiwanis member who was an Evanston businessman, humanitarian and with his wife, LouAnn, a distinguished art collector.
Peggy Giordano is captain of the Girls Golf team. She enjoys the game because it allows her to spend time her teammates who have become close friends. She hopes to become an attorney like her father, and will attend college in Canada and major in political science.
Ferris Ingraham is captain of the football team. He plays defense and hopes to continue playing in college while pursuing a degree in engineering. He prides himself on his work ethic which finds him working out daily (off season also )to maintain agility and build strength.

Breton (Bret) Lowry is a tri-captain of the Boys Soccer team. He has man good things to say about his coaches and their willingness to help him on and of the field. He is considering economics as a major and will continue to play soccer in college.
The club began its tradition of honoring the scholar athletes in 2007. Over 150 students have received the honor, along with a book on leadership, a certificate of recognition and a Barnes & Noble gift card.
