The Kiwanis Club of Evanston recently honored three scholar athletes from Evanston Township High School. Director of Athletics, Chris Livatino, a Kiwnais member, introduced the athletes who are honored for their achievements as students and as athletes. The program was begun in 2007, the brainchild of former public safety director Frank Kaminski.

Named for Ted Van Zeltz, a businessman and philanthropist, the students honored were
Immanuel Woodberry, Jessica Ampel and Adam Masters. Immanuel is a co-captain of the Boys Football team and plays safety. He is interested in studying physical therapy or sports medicine and considering Northern Illinois University or Grand Valley State.

Jessica Ampel is a doubles player on the Girls Tennis team. She and her partner were particular pleased about their win over the New Trier doubles team in late September. She is also a member of Emerge, a community service group and has worked with people with disabilities. She is considering Skidmore or Tufts and would like to study sociology or psychology.
