Long-time Evanston residents and founders of a mental health education organization will be recognized at 3/29 Social Impact Leaders Awards.

Lawrence and Marilyn Cohen, long-time Evanston residents and founders of the Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education (NRCI) will be honored at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s inaugural Social Impact Leaders Awards luncheon March 29 at Chicago’s Sofitel Hotel. Emceed by actress Torrey DeVitto of NBC’s Chicago Med, the event will recognize the Cohens; Founder and CEO of Compsych, Richard Chaifetz, Psy.D.; and Beth Rom-Rymer, Ph.D., Founder of Rom-Rymer and Associates for the impact they’ve made in the areas of mental health, psychology, and behavioral health. Registration is now open. The Chicago School is a leading nonprofit, private university devoted exclusively to psychology, and related behavioral health sciences.
The Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education is an organization dedicated to reducing the stigma that interferes with people impacted by mental illness getting the support they need and becoming fully integrated into their communities. Through an annual community conference and partnerships with schools and community-based organizations, NRCI raises awareness about the impact of mental health on individuals and communities.
The Cohens had this to say regarding the award, “We are moved by this recognition, yet we really believe the honor belongs to Naomi who continues to inspire us. It also belongs to the thousands who have attended our mental health conferences held every June in Evanston, joining us in the movement to end stigma and ensure that individuals and families impacted by mental illness have the support they need and deserve.”
