The library showing will also mark the last week of Women’s History month, so showing how the local Woman’s Club has progressed through the years is a logical link.
Since history is always a great catalyst for discussion, a talk will follow the screening.
Most organizations the size of the Woman’s Club of Evanston would not be able to show such a detailed history, but this will include many photographs preserved by the Northwestern University Archives.
It’s produced by The Reporters of Greater Evanston, a collaboration between journalists from area publications, significant organizations throughout the North Shore and local volunteers.
“We’ve done 20-some shoes and this is by far our biggest,” said Jim Mizell, a member of the group. “Some of the stories we’ve done have been ‘behind the scenes’ stories behind major news events, but lately we’ve been focused on historical documentaries.”
Work on the film began a year ago, when the organization decided to commission a documentary in honor of their 125th anniversary, which took place in 2014.
With the mountains of historical footage of the Woman’s Club by Northwestern, nothing has come close to being as complete as this, Mizell said.
“The photos they had kept made this a doable task,” he added.
