Loaded Handgun Found During Evanston Traffic Stop Tuesday Night
Police arrested the 41-year-old driver after he was stopped for running a red light on Emerson Street.

EVANSTON, IL - Police found a loaded Sig Sauer .380 caliber handgun during a traffic stop in Evanston Tuesday night.
Pedro Lebron, 41, of the 2000 block of Jackson was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by felon, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of firearm/ammunition without FOID card at 8:20 p.m. after officers stopped a vehicle he was driving in the 1400 block of Emerson Street.
A police report indicates Lebron's vehicle was first noticed in the 1600 block of Emerson Street when it ran a red light. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, police say the driver continued traveling eastbound and was observed "leaning way over into the passenger compartment."

After he stopped, police said Lebron was acting "in a nervous matter" and the odor of burnt cannabis was noticed. A check of the vehicle also revealed an open can of beer and a pipe used to smoke narcotics. The handgun was found in the rear passenger area.
