Local Sorority to Girls Summit

My Black is Beautiful: Discovering Your Brilliance from the Inside Out

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter (ENSA) is hosting My Black is Beautiful: Discovering Your Brilliance from the Inside Out. The event will be held on Sunday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m. at Evanston Township High School located 1600 Dodge Avenue, Evanston, IL 60201. The event, which is geared for girls ages 11 to 18, is in its third year and will feature interactive discussions and activities that are aimed to be both insightful and empowering. Registration for the event is free. Those interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register online.

Facilitators for this year will cover topics on self-esteem, goal setting, interactions with law enforcement and healthy lifestyles.

Rayvin Julien, committee chair and coordinator for the event was asked who should attend My Black is Beautiful. "Any girl between the ages of 11-18 should attend. We want all girls to come out, be inspired, connect with others and discover and embrace their greatness. We have added some surprises this year that we know the girls will enjoy," exclaimed Julien.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1913 whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world (www.deltasigmatheta.com). The major programs of the Sorority are based on the organization's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

The Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter (ENSA) was chartered in Evanston, IL on January 20, 1948. The Chapter is committed to upholding high morals, sisterhood, scholarship, and public service within African-American communities and beyond.
