Man Gets Probation For Sexual Abuse Of NU Student During Massage
Still maintaining he did nothing wrong, the Chicago masseuse was sentenced to two years of sex offender probation Thursday.

SKOKIE, IL — A Chicago man was sentenced to two years of probation Thursday for the attempted rape of a 19-year-old Northwestern University student in 2016. He could have faced up to seven years imprisonment, but instead he must pay fines and fees of $2,500, register as a sex offender and provide a DNA sample to police, according to the Evanston Review.
Kai Wang, 33, of the 3600 block of South Archer Avenue in the McKinley Park neighborhood, was arrested Oct. 14, 2016 at Art of Health, 1638 Orrington Ave. in Evanston, after a woman identified him as the man who had groped her during a massage the day before. He managed to keep his job at the spa after his arrest while he was out on bail.
In May, a judge found him guilty of criminal sexual abuse and attempted criminal sexual assault and not guilty of a more serious charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault. The Northwestern student testified Wang reached under a towel and touched her genitals, grabbing and restraining her when she tried to leave.

Wang read a letter at his sentencing hearing maintaining that he did nothing wrong, prosecutors told the Chicago Tribune. Wang's attorney argued at trial the woman had been angry about the massage she had received.
At sentencing, Cook County Associate Judge Lauren Edidin said gave Wang sex offender probation instead of jail time because he had no criminal history, the Tribune reported.
