Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl Won't Seek Reelection

The mayor of Evanston made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday.

EVANSTON, IL - Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will not run for reelection in 2017.

Tisdahl made the announcement on Twitter late Wednesday afternoon.

"Loved every minute of being Mayor," she wrote. "Thanks to the community esp. Mayor Morton. I will not be running for reelection. Time for new challenges."

Tisdahl has been mayor of Evanston since 2009 and previously served as a member of both the City Council and Evanston Township High School board of education. She won the Democratic Party of Evanston Community Service Award in 2002.

Former 7th Ward Ald. Jane Grover was among the ones to praise Tisdahl's tenure as the lead government official in Evanston.

"Thank you for your extraordinary service to our community as Mayor, Alderwoman, @ETHSWildkits board member, citizen," Grover wrote shortly after Tisdahl broke the news to her nearly 600 followers.

Tisdahl was reelected to the Mayoral post in 2013. Her second term expires in 2017.
