Memorial Arrangements Set for Former Evanston Mayor

Arrangements for former Evanston Mayor Joan Barr-Smith, who passed away over the weekend after a six-year battle with leukemia, have been set.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 1509 Ridge Avenue in Evanston.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd. Skokie or Evanston History Center, 225 Greenwood St. in Evanston.

Barr served as the city’s first female Mayor from 1985 to 1993. Prior to that, she was on the Evanston City Council.
