Metra Train Struck by Lightning in Rogers Park

Train No. 309 on the Union Pacific North Line was hit was a mechanical problem as a result.

CHICAGO, IL - A Metra train was struck by lightning in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood during the Tuesday morning commute.

“Outbound trains are experiencing extensive delays due to train #309 being struck by lightning which resulted in a mechanical problem,” Metra reported on its website around 7:30 a.m.

All delays have stopped as of early Tuesday afternoon as trains began moving again.

The train was headed north on the Union Pacific North line and was scheduled to arrive in Kenosha, Wisc. at 8:18 a.m. The lightning struck the train as it was arriving at the Rogers Park Station at 7000 N. Ravenswood Ave., NBC reported.

There were no reports of injuries.
