National Night Out Events In Evanston

Find out what's happening and where to mark this year's National Night Out in Evanston Tuesday.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston residents and community members have been invited to come out and take a public stance against crime by attending National Night Out (NNO) celebration events taking place at various spots around town Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign held on the first Tuesday of August to promote partnerships with police and camaraderie among neighborhoods. The goal is to make neighborhoods safer and better places to live. Neighbors participate across thousands of communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

Check out a list of 2017 NNO locations and events in Evanston:

  • Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave., 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Enjoy Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) activities outside of the Church Street entrance.
  • Evanston Animal Shelter, 2310 Oakton St., 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring the whole family for games, snacks and fun. Dog-friendly dogs are welcome.
  • Twiggs Park, Dodge Avenue at Simpson Street, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. - This 5th Ward event will feature Leon Rogers from WGCI, house music and family fun, including a barbecue, face painting, games and nature tours.
  • Penny Park, Lake Street and Ashland Avenue, 7 p.m. - Enjoy a Starlight Movie in the Park, "Jumanji". Activities start at 7 p.m., and the movie will begin at dusk (approximately 8:15 p.m.). Food trucks will be available.
  • Cartwright Park, 3300 Noyes St., 6 p.m. - Enjoy a neighborhood meet and greet, food and drinks.
  • Kamen Park, South Boulevard and Barton Avenue, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This 9th Ward event will feature food trucks, art, a DJ and more.
  • Howard Street and Custer/Damen Avenues, 5:30 p.m. Brummel Park neighbors will come together for a community walk along Howard Street. Afterwards, stop by Kamen Park for 8th and 9th Ward National Night Out festivities.

Residents are also asked to turn on their front porch lights that evening as a display of unity. Participants can find materials, such as banners, balloons, and t-shirts, online at natw.org. For more information, residents can call their Problem Solving Team (PST) Beat Officer at 847-866-5019.
