New Alderman Looks To Reality TV Example As Way To Improve City

Brian Miller says much like "The Profit," emphasis should be put on people, product and process in Evanston.

Evanston Ninth Ward Alderman Brian Miller took a page out of the hit NBC series “The Profit” to introduce what he hopes to accomplish as a council representative for the city.

He says much like the show’s focus on people, product and process as a way to fix a business, the city can apply “that same framework” to improving local government.

“My policy agenda is that simple,” Miller wrote in an introductory email to residents Monday. “I will create programs and policies that benefit our citizens (“people”). I will ensure that our services (“products”) are sound, efficient and effective. Finally, I will work to improve the process of governing by making decisions in an open, transparent and responsive manner.”

He promised to elaborate more on those principles in a follow-up email.

“It is truly an honor to serve as your Alderman,” he wrote, offering his assistance to those he represents.
