North Shore Obituary: Lucy A. Bragg

96-year old lived in Evanston and attended Skokie Valley Bpatist Church.

Lucy A. Bragg, nee Dunkerton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully the morning of January 7. She was 96 years old and was suffering from the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. We rejoice that she is now united with her husband Bill, her brothers and sister, her parents, many long-time Skokie Valley Baptist Church friends, and most importantly with Jesus. Lucy was a long-time member of Skokie Valley and was faithful in attendance and service until the Alzheimer’s confined her to the memory care division of The Moorings in Arlington Heights.

Lucy was born April 25, 1918, in Dunkerton, Iowa, to Barbara and James Dunkerton. Upon graduating from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, she moved to Aurora, Illinois, where she taught school for many years. In the early ‘60’s she moved to Evanston and was employed by Harper and Row writing and editing children’s books. She also began attending Skokie Valley Baptist Church where she met her future husband, Bill Bragg. They were married in 1973 and resided in Skokie before moving to the Moorings.

She and Bill were “3rd grandparents” to her two great-nieces, Jennifer (Dunkerton) Fleener and Heather (Dunkerton) Brown, who both cherish the fond memories of holidays, overnights stays, and other special moments with them. Funeral services are private.
