Northwestern Applications Down Nearly 5 Percent

The higher rate of early decision acceptances is good, associate provost says.

Northwestern University’s total applications for admissions to the Class of 2019 is down 4.7 percent from last year, but one school official says a lot of students being admitted to the early decision pool is a good sign.

Associate Provost Mike Mills told the Daily Northwestern applications from African-American, Hispanic and international students were up, while those from Asian-American and Caucasian students have decreased. He also indicated it’s preferable to have the decreases in applications from students with lower test scores, which was the case.
