Northwestern Baseball Scoreboard Approved
Additional landscaping will help obstruct the views from Wilmette, University official says.

EVANSTON, IL - Northwestern University officials have received clearance from the Evanston City Council to move forward with a controversial plan to construct a new baseball scoreboard at Rocky Miller Park, home of the school’s baseball team.
The Council gave unanimous approval for the plans behind the proposed scoreboard, which is part of other renovations planned at the park that sits near the Evanston-Wilmette border, according to the Daily North Shore.

A construction spokesperson for Northwestern told the council the landscaping around the park has doubled from previous plans and the transporting of trees from other parts of the park has been added to the plans as a way to obstruct the view residents of Wilmette would have of the planned 24-by-36 foot scoreboard.
Residents of Wilmette were vocal during a previous public meeting about the proposed size and location of the scoreboard, arguing it could corrupt school children who would be exposed to the scoreboard’s advertising messages while walking home.
