Photo of the Day: Winning Free Electricty for a Year
Evanston and the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) teamed up for an energy saver competition where two green residents earned free electric bills for a year.
The City of Evanston and Citizens Utility Board announced Wednesday the winning teams of its yearlong energy-efficiency competition.
Two teams one the competition, known as the "Big 7 Savers Challenge", including the NorthShore University HealthSystem and Evanston Township High School. Participants used CUBenergysaver.com "to save enough electricity and money to equal 30 years of power bills," according to a press statement released Wednesday.

“NorthShore University HealthSystem and Evanston Township High School did an outstanding job,” Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl said of the winners in a press release. “But the best thing about this competition is that there are no losers. Everyone is saving energy and money.”
As a reward, one member from each winning team was selected to "win a year of free power, up to $1,800." The lucky members included Amber Knopp, of NorthShore’s team, and Mary Spoden of the ETHS team.

To continue the environmental efforts, CUBenergysaver.com will pay the April electric bill for one in 10 consumers who join the online service before June.
