Potential Board Members Interviewed By Evanston/Skokie District 65

A new board member will be officially appointed later this month in D-65 to fill a vacant seat.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston/Skokie School District 65 will have a new board member by the end of the month, as the board prepares to name a replacement for a member who resigned last month. Omar Brown stepped down from the D-65 Board of Education July 7, "citing work and family commitments," according to the district.

The board collected applications until the end of July and began interviewing candidates Monday, according to the application instructions. The chosen applicant will be sworn in at the Aug. 21 board meeting.

The volunteer board is in charge of hiring and evaluating the performance of the superintendent, overseeing facilities and approving an annual budget, among other duties. Earlier this year, voters in the district overwhelmingly approved a property tax increase to bring in $14.5 million to balance its budget.
