Presence Saint Francis Hospital hosts health fair on prevention and treatment strategies for wound healing in diabetics
Presence Saint Francis Hospital will host a free health fair to teach wound prevention and treatment strategies for those with diabetes on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, from 8 – 11 a.m., at the hospital, 355 Ridge Avenue, Evanston, Illinois. Research studies show there can be significant delays in wound healing for diabetics, and physician experts will discuss the latest medical research and trends in diabetes detection, self-care and wound healing. There will also be free screenings related to diabetes risk factors, including glucose, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI).
“Diabetes itself is a serious disease that must be managed properly, and caring for wounds while managing diabetes is critical,” said Dipti Shah, RN, clinical coordinator diabetes educator. “We want diabetics to understand the importance of taking proper care of their wounds when they occur. It would make a difference in leading a healthy lifestyle verses losing a foot or limb.”
