Primary for Evanston Mayor, 5th Ward Races is February 28
Five candidates are running for office in both races.

EVANSTON, IL - A primary election in Evanston for two governmental races will be held in February because there are five candidates seeking office.
The consolidated primary for Mayor and Fifth Ward Council representative will be on Feb. 28, various local media reports have indicated.
Evanston Now reports that If one of the of the five candidates in either race acquire a majority of the vote in the primary, they will be winner and no April 4 election will be held for that office.

If no candidate gets 50 percent of the vote in the primary, then the top two vote getters will participate in an April 4 runoff.
Running for mayor in 2017 are Brian Miller, Mark Tendam, Gary Gaspard, Steve Hagerty and Jeffery P. Smith. The winner of this race will be the first man to serve as mayor of Evanston in more than three decades.

Robin Rue, Carolyn Murray, Daniel Featherson, Carlis Sutton and Misty Witenberg seek the 5th Ward spot.
The elections for all other city races will be held in April.
