RCN is Coming to Evanston

The cable company popular on the North Side of Chicago will be fined for jumping the gun on installation, however.

But the company will have to pay a fine for jumping the gun.

RCN began installing wires on utility poles in Evanston last week before they acquired the permits to do so, according to Evanston Now. They will be assessed a $500 per day fine for each of the sites they began work at for two days last week.

The company, which is known for providing cheaper options for cable and internet services than competitors such as Comcast and AT&T, has been issued a franchise to operate in Evanston.

City officials say it was a misunderstanding between their attorney and management on when they would be allowed to begin wire installation.
