Report Of Man With Gun At Northwestern Sparks Police Response
A call about a mentally ill man with a wooden gun brought Evanston and Northwestern University police to campus Tuesday, police said.

EVANSTON, IL — Numerous Evanston and Northwestern University police responded to campus Wednesday after a call about a man with a gun. Initially, police believed the call was probably the result of amateur dramatics, since there were various performance groups in the area due to summer theater programs.
Police secured the scene and determined that the most likely reason for the call was one of the performance groups. Later in the evening, a man was located who is believed to have prompted the call according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew.
Around 10 p.m., police found a mentally disturbed man in possession of a wooden gun. Glew said the man was not a student at Northwestern and had been committed to an institution.
