Reports: Biss Could Run for Comptroller
9th District State Senator has campaign fund, and maybe interest, to run for state post.
Reports are in that State Sen. Daniel Biss (D, Evanston) is mulling a run for state comptroller.
The Chicago Tribune reports Biss has $721,000 in his campaign fund and “appears to be the first Democrat to actively float his name ” in the state special election in 2016, having run unopposed in the last 9th District State Senator race.
The special election was passed in the General Assembly in early January after Gov. Pat Quinn signed it into law before he left office. The need for one arose with the passing of Judy Baar Topinka, who was in the midst of her term.

State Comptroller Leslie Munger, a Republican, will have to face an opposed election in a presidential year if the law holds up in court, which is expected.
Evanston Now points out Biss, or whoever wins the Democratic Primary, could have an advantage Democrats often hold in presidential years.
