Residents Advised To Shelter In Place Due To Gas Line Break

A high-pressure gas line break in Evanston prompted a shelter-in-place order Friday morning.

EVANSTON, IL — Residents in an Evanston neighborhood were advised to shelter in place Friday morning due to a high-pressure gas line break.

The Evanston Fire Department said the break happened in front of 2145 Ridge Ave, and officials are on scene to manage the situation. Residents were urged to avoid the area from Noyes Street to Simpson Avenue.

The gas leak had stopped Friday afternoon, but a NICOR team remained on site to complete repairs over several hours, according to an update from the city.
